Furness Cricket Club Facilities & Events - Welcome

Welcome to  Furness Cricket Club run by members for members. The objects of the Club shall be to provide facilities for the playing and fostering of the game of cricket and other sports, to promote social activities between the members and also promote the Club within the local community and cricket.  We are a non-profit making Club with an open membership policy.

07/04/08 Furness Cricket Club have won League Division 4 in the Barrow & District Mixed Darts League 2007/2008.

FURNESS CRICKET CLUB have been put forward for the Chance 2 Shine initiative together with Barrow Cricket Club in conjunction with Cumbria Cricket Board & the Cricket Foundation.(September 2006) Hopefully a full time Cricket Coordinator will be appointed in Spring 2007 to coach in selected Primary & Secondary Schools, and link the Clubs & Schools.Alistair Mc Dougal appointed and commences in schools on 30th April 2007.**Chance to Shine (Bringing Cricket to State Schools)The Cricket Foundation, an independant registered charity, launched Chance to shine in May 2005 when fewer than 10% of state schools in England & Wales had competitive cricket.Chance to shine is a ten-year campaign to regenerate competitive cricket in the state sector. By 2015 it will have set up sustainable cricket programmes in a third of state schools in England & Wales and introduced more than two million children to the sport.It works through the ECB's Focus clubs. 7/11/07 After Discussion, Debate & a Presentation, Furness Cricket Club signed today to be involved with the Chance To Shine initiative for 2008.

Following a committee meeting after the AGM David Olliver was re-elected Chairman & Dave Moffatt elected Vice Chairman. (15.2.08) Dave Moffatt (2nd Team Captain & Vice Chairman) advises thet Steve Perry is  willing to be 'B' Team Captain for 2008. (5/08) Glen Gibson is assisting Steve. 

19th December 2007: FURNESS CRICKET CLUB has been awarded an AWARDS for ALL grant for £9800.00 by the Awards for All programme towards the purchase of a new roller for our cricket ground.(Poweroll 15 4ft Diesel)Delivery March 2008.

January 2008: Notified by Alison Meadows, Cumbria County Council, Neighbourhood Development Officer(Barrow)that the Local Committee Neighbourhood Grants Panel has agreed to award Furness Cricket Club a grant of £1000.00 towards the repair and renovation of the pavilion floor.We still have to attend the Hawcoat Neighbourhood Forum on 17th March 2008 to possibly be granted further funding.- Awarded a further grant of £1000.00 at this meeting. -  Thanks to the County Council and the Neighbourhood Grants Panel for their assistance.

On 23rd May 2008 the club received an ECB Machinery Grant Of £7800 towards the purchase an out field mower. The application for this grant commenced in August 2007.

The Lord's Taverners Foundation Grant Aid. -- Furness CC have received £500.00 towards the cost of new netting for the practice nets.(8/05)

The Club was founded on 9th April 1892 and called  "The    St. James' Cricket and Lawn Tennis Club". At an Annual General Meeting held on 1st March 1919 a motion was passed to change the name to Furness Cricket Club.

Club Colours: Navy Blue & Gold.

20/4/05........  Confirmation received today from Bob Simpson, Cumbria Cricket Board County Development Officer, that he has informed LORDS that Furness Cricket Club has attained  Sport England / ECB Clubmark accreditation. (Making clubs " Safe", "Effective" & "Child Friendly").

March 2005 BARROW BOROUGH SPORTS COUNCIL & SPORTS ACTION ZONE has agreed an award of £835.00 towards the cost of coaching awards and maintenance qualifications.

Junior Member (Non playing) £2.50.Playing Members:- Under 16's £4.00.   16's to 18's £6.00.Playing Member over 18 (all teams)  £27.00.Playing Member over 18 ( 3rd team only including Furness Taverners)  £15.00.

Furness Cricket Club is affiliated to the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) & Cumbria Cricket Board (CCB).

Furness CC is a "Focus Club" and  also has Sport England / ECB Clubmark accreditation.
Furness Cricket Club is also a Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC) 

Furness CC 1st X1 (Premier Division) & 2nd X1 (Division Two) play in the Marston's Pedigree North Lancashire & Cumbria Cricket League.The 3rd X1 ("B"team) play mid-week in the Furness Cricket Association.Furness run 4 Junior sides playing in the Barrow & District Junior Leagues at U/11, U/13, U/15 & U/17 age levels.Our Women's team compete in the Lancashire Women's Cricket League.

FURNESS CRICKET CLUB adheres to Sport England Clubmark guidelines and good practice.The Club has three Child Protection / Welfare Officers* and has an Anti-Bullying Policy and a Child Protection Policy and also adopts and implements the ECB's "Safe Hands - Cricket's Policy for Safeguarding Children"  (and all updates). {The ECB policy relating to Child Protection, "Safe Hands -.." was produced in October 2003 & launched to the press late in January 2004}. Safe Hands was revised in 2005 and the latest verision is dated October 2007.

A cricket ground can be a dangerous place. Injury is always possible from a cricket ball or running ground machinery. Parents must provide children with close supervision and control at all times.
We provide supervision at our notified practice sessions.
Practice times for Juniors will be notified to them as they may vary from season to season.

David Moffatt is our Junior Co-ordinator (See "About Us" Club Officials for his details).

Parents MUST provide children with close supervision and control at all other times.

The bar is open from 8.00pm daily throughout the year and on Saturdays on Match days from 2.00pm.

Committee Meetings are usually held on the 4th Tuesday of every month the season. Please notify the Hon.Sec.if you can . The next committee meeting will be held on Tuesday 26th August 2008 at 8.15pm
If any member has a topic he/she wishes to be raised and discussed by the committee will they please pass the topic to a committee person, in writing,  who will ensure that the matter is raised at the next committee meeting.

As a Community Amateur Sports Club (CASC) we are totally run by our members, and like most amateur organisations too few members are doing too much. If any member wishes to volunteer to give some time & assistance to the Club, in whatever capacity, please inform the Chairman, Hon.Secretary or any committee member.
